“The Likely Lads,” the beloved British sitcom that aired in 1964, remains a cherished memory for many fans of classic television. The show, which captured the essence of the 1960s through the friendship of Terry Collier and Bob Ferris, has left an indelible mark on the landscape of British comedy. As we look ahead to 2025, it’s worthwhile to reflect on the lives of its cast members over the past six decades.

James Bolam, 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 June 16, 1935, in Sunderland, portrayed the witty and rebellious Terry Collier. Now 89 and retired, Bolam has had a successful career, starring in series like “When the Boat Comes In” and “New Tricks.” His collaboration with co-star Susan Jameson, whom he married, continues to influence British entertainment.

Rodney Bewes, who played the ambitious Bob Ferris, passed away in 2017 at the age of 79. Bewes remained active in theatre and television until his death, despite a well-publicized feud with Bolam. His contributions to British comedy remain unforgettable.

Another notable cast member, Michael Sheard, 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 June 18, 1938, gained fame for portraying stern authority figures after his role as Nesbitt. He passed away in 2005 at 67, leaving behind a legacy in both television and film.

George Layton, who played Mario, continues to be involved in the industry at 83 years old. Known for his versatility as an actor and writer, Layton’s influence on British sitcoms is significant.

Wendy Richard, who played Lynn, became a household name with her role in “EastEnders” before her death in 2009. Meanwhile, Barry Stanton, known for his roles in “Doctor Who” and “Porridge,” remains active at 85.

As we reflect on the cast’s journeys, it is bittersweet to note the losses.
