‘Get Better’: Tiger Woods’s TGL Dealt Unexpected Injury Blow Hours Before Crucial Playoff Match

Just like that, we will soon be heading straight into the TGL finals in a few more days. Before that, however, we will be seeing a strong roster battling it on Tuesday for the second semi-final. In case you missed it, the first semifinal, also the first-ever TGL playoff match, was between New York Golf Club and Los Angeles Golf Club. Who won? Well, the New York Golf Club registered a massive win of 6-4. Consequently, they’re the first team to make it into the finals. So, what’s next?

The second semifinal will kick off at 7 PM (ET) between Atlanta Drive GC and The Bay Golf Club. Consequently, star golfers like Justin ThomasBilly Horschel, and Patrick Cantlay were set to tee off against Shane LowryWyndham Clark, and Ludvig Aberg. Sounded just as exciting as the first one. However, in the latest development, the match will not look like that at all. What happened?

According to the latest news from The Bay Golf and TGL, Min Woo Lee will be playing in The Bay Golf Club instead of Wyndham Clark. Why? It has everything to do with the neck injury that forced the World No. 8 out of The PLAYERS Championship. Although there’s been no update from Clark since then, Min Woo Lee has wished the star golfer a quick recovery in a recent Instagram story.

The original post reads: “Due to injury, Wyndham Clark will be replaced by Min Woo Lee in The Bay Golf Club’s lineup for Tuesday’s Semifinals match against Atlanta Drive GC at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.” Min Woo Lee used this post and added a message to his story. The caption reads: “get better Wyndham. tomorrow night @tglgolf 🤝 @thebaygolf.”

After this change, Justin Thomas will be teeing off against Shane Lowry on Hole 1. Billy Horschel will be up against Min Woo Lee on Hole 2. Following them will be Patrick Cantlay and Ludvig Aberg up against each other on Hole 3.

But hey, don’t worry just yet! If Min Woo Lee’s latest performance at the greens is any indication, the golfer will likely be an asset to The Bay Golf Club. The 26-year-old golfer made finishes of 67-66-78-73 and scored a T20 position at the recently concluded The PLAYERS Championship! With that out of the way, let’s see what’s going on with TGL.

Tiger Woods’s TGL is welcoming a new set of partners into the greens

When Tiger Woods kicked off this inspiring project, the first drew a massive viewership of 1 million! It sounded promising, but if there’s one golfer who has attracted the most views, it’s Tiger Woods. So, what happened in his absence? Well, it wasn’t too bad. As TGL approaches its second semifinal round, the virtual league has been averaging 502,000 viewers per telecast, surpassing ESPN’s pre-launch expectations. Again, there’s been a difference in the numbers. It peaked at over 1 million during Tiger Woods’s first appearance in Week 2 while a Monday afternoon match drew only 160k viewers on ESPN2.

Regardless, this Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy brain𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 seems to be doing fine. Heading into the finals, TGL has attracted new partners, including names like AG1, Hard Rock Bet, and Mastercard. The other partners include: Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, Stanley 1913, and Verizon. Undoubtedly, the future looks good. What else? All these new partners will feature in live broadcasts. They will join existing partners like SoFi, Genesis, Best Buy, and Businessolver!

According to Jason Langwell, chief revenue officer at TMRW Sports, it’s the fans. “The response by fans, in and outside the golf landscape, has resonated around the innovative nature of TGL as a platform for prime time, team golf. TGL has drawn one of the youngest audiences in all of sports, which is especially impressive for a golf property.” It has everything to do with the median age TGL draws in. For instance, for TGL, its audience’s median age is 51.4 years. It is much better than the Tour’s and LIV’s (63 years).

Looking at this, what do you think the future of TGL looks like? More importantly, catch the games and let us know who you think will win!
