Rory McIlroy recently appeared in YouTube golf influencer Grant Horvat’s video. The 5-time Major champion taught Horvat how to gain yardage using his driver.

Horvat partnered up with McIlroy’s TGL co-founder and golf legend, Tiger Woods in another big collaboration a week back. Following it up with the Irish golfing icon’s appearance on his channel speaks volumes about how receptive the YouTube sensation’s audience has been. In the video, McIlroy talked to Horvat about what his swing looked like and then shared tips on unlocking speed.

“Your swing looks like you’ve got like a the target in mind. To me when I sort of unlocked a little more speed, it was like I would swing on the range and I wouldn’t care if I missed it. And I was missing the range, like literally. And then you can bring it in from there but if we’re just working on speed…,” McIlroy noted [4:35 – 4:57].

Horvat chipped in that he was trying to do a golf swing. The Northern Irish star advised him to not do that and further said:

“Try and move the thing as fast as you can. That’s all you are trying to do here,” he added [5:05 – 5:07].

The social media influencer took McIlroy’s suggestions and approached his next shot, pepping himself to at least hit 170. The latter was impressed with his swing this time and commended him on that. He later asked the distance Horvat had covered and was told it was 172.

“Focus entirely on the movement” – When Rory McIlroy isolated himself to make swing changes

Rory McIlroy is one of the best golfers in the circuit currently. But every once in a while even the greatest athletes need to make certain improvements in their forms and techniques.

McIlroy was faced with a similar conundrum last year when he found himself displeased with his swing and the 35-year-old went to extreme measures to fix it. He locked himself in his studio for three weeks, as he told reporters in November last year.

“The only way I was going to make a change, or at least move in the right direction, with my swing was to lock myself in a studio and not see the ball flight for a bit and just focus entirely on the movement,” he said [via Golf Magic].

The isolation must have worked, as Rory McIlroy won his sixth Race to Dubai title after that. He went on to win the season-ending DP World Tour Championship as well.

The ace golfer will next be seen at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic this week. He will also be competing at the TGL where he is a part of the Boston Common Golf team. His first match is scheduled on January 27th against co-host Tiger Woods’ team Jupiter Links Golf Club at 6:30 pm ET.
