Terry Crews’ wife Rebecca reveals how their 35-year marriage could have ended three times – and why they were almost left homeless

Terry Crews‘ wife has revealed that her marriage to the America’s Got Talent host almost ended in divorce three times, but they managed to work through their problems after the actor went to ‘work on himself.’

Speaking in an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Rebecca King-Crews gushed about her husband of 35 years and how much she admires his ambition and tenacity, but also revealed that life hasn’t always been so smooth sailing as they once almost found themselves homeless.

Opening up about the highs and lows of their relationship, Rebecca, 58, explained: ‘Our faith is a common ground, so we share those values and even if we don’t always live up to them, we’re trying.

‘There’s a certain kind of person we’re both trying to be and then faith in the fact that we chose each other for a reason.

‘It’s funny because we’ve talked about this, because we’ve had probably two or three instances [where] we could have ended the marriage, in 35 years. Each time we were in those crises, one of us wanted out, but the other one didn’t, so the other one fought.’

The mother-of-five, who launched a boutique store in Pasadena for her clothing line Rebecca Crews earlier this month, continued: ‘So the first time I wanted out, he fought for me. The second time he wanted out and I fought for him, and the third time he just had to come clean about his addiction and I kicked him out.

‘He fell on the floor like a two-year-old and begged me not to leave him and I said, “well you blew that, you know,” and he went to work on himself and he’s a better person, but he can still get better,’ Rebecca continued.

Both Terry and Rebecca have been vocal about their marital struggles in recent years and, in 2021, the White Chicks star admitted that his porn addiction almost destroyed their relationship.

When asked about the secret to a long-lasting marriage, Rebecca said: ‘You have to make sure that you’re getting what you want and they’re getting what they want. One of the reasons I was able to stay in my marriage is because I knew what I wanted when I got married.

‘I knew that I wanted a certain life, and it turned out that he wanted what I wanted,’ she said of Terry, who she married in July 1989.

‘Sometimes people fall in love with people who don’t want what they want, they don’t want the same thing. One person wants kids, the other one doesn’t. That’s a recipe for disaster.

‘So I hate to say it’s like a job interview, but it really was for me, knowing that Terry’s goals were very close to mine was like a sign to me,’ she added.

‘It’s been hard, and my husband has talked openly about problems he’s had, but deep down, Terry was just a good guy and he was my friend.

‘I loved him as a person before I was in love with him and he’s still my friend, and I will still cuss him out in one minute and turn around and hug him in the next and tell him, “but you still my boo,”‘ Rebecca gushed.

The businesswoman said she still holds Terry to a certain ‘standard,’ but admitted that forgiveness is also an important aspect of making their relationship work.

‘I’m always like, “look, we’re older now, it’s time for you to stop doing that” and whatever it is, I say to him, “you know I love you, but you can do better,” and he’s like, “I’m not perfect,” and I’m like, “No, but you can do better,”‘ she divulged.

‘And so I still hold him to a standard but I also forgive him for things that he maybe never did that I wanted him to, or things he did that he shouldn’t have done, and forgiveness is another principle.

‘You cannot stay married [and] you can’t stay friends if you can’t forgive people, but you forgive them if they’re sincerely sorry, you don’t give cheap forgiveness, you don’t just keep putting up with bad behavior,’ Rebecca explained.

‘Sometimes you have to create some distance, or you have to kind of say your prayers and go off by yourself somewhere and let them feel the consequence of not having your company, and that’s what happened when we had our moment. I said to him, “you need to be by yourself,” and he was devastated.’

The couple – who are parents to four daughters Naomi, 36, Azriél, 33, Tera, 26, and 21-year-old Wynfrey and son Isaiah, 19 – have lived in Pasadena in California for 25 years now, but they’ve certainly experienced difficult times as a family too.

‘There was a season of our lives that we could have been homeless’ Rebecca revealed.

‘And, of course, we always say God provides because something came through for us.

‘But we were a week from having to be out of our place and we had nowhere to go, and something came through in the nick of time, and we literally moved across the street,’ referring to when they lived in Burbank.

Talking about what life is like now that all of her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren have left home, Rebecca said: ‘So now I have a lot of freedom, my husband and I travel more.

‘Sometimes I can hang out with him while he’s working and jump on the plane with him, so it’s really, really fun to be an empty nester.

‘But I tried to make sure that I had things going on for when they left home,’ she added, before joking of Terry: ‘I’ll say this though, he’s like another kid!’

With her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren all grown up, Rebecca has had more time to focus on her clothing line and says Terry has been a significant support, both financially and emotionally, and she even credits him with instilling a fierce determination in her.

Rebecca’s focus for many years has been on raising her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren, while Terry’s acting career went from strength-to-strength, but she said of her journey: ‘It’s never too late.

‘You can you can focus on one thing and then focus on another, you don’t have to burn your candle at both ends to live your dream.

‘I have a new boldness and a new faith in myself,’ she said. ‘I feel so grateful and overwhelmed.

‘I was with my staff and we were loading out from our storage unit and from our studio and bringing things to the store, and I just wanted to cry.

‘I was like, “oh my God, I have a store in Pasadena!” It’s amazing, it’s just a dream come true and I see even bigger and better things.’

Her latest collection is a stylish mix of women’s tuxedos, suits, cashmere sweaters, shoes, handbags, accessories, as well as cosmetics.

Rebecca and her team utilize the most refined workmanship, fabrics, and expert tailoring to create a fabulously feminine fit – clothing that is fashionable and functional.
