The world of birds never ceases to amaze us! They come in all sizes shapes and colors. Some appear so outlandish it’s hard sometimes to believe they are real.

One such bird looks almost like it flew right out of a cartoon show. A tiny bird with a light pink body, and black and yellow wings, complemented by equally yellow eyes and an aqua-colored beak.

Meet the Black and Yellow Broadbill.

This species is found throughout Southeast Asia, living in the hills and lowland forests of Thailand, Indonesia,  Brunei, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Singapore.

Its song consists of a series of fairly high-pitched coos, increasing in volume and speed, that then turn in a series of equally loud whistles.

This species makes a pear-shaped nest made up of moss and leaves that hang high from tree limbs.

Sadly they are listed as a ‘near threatened’ species on the IUCN Red List, mainly due to heavy logging.
