Mark Rylance, who starred in Nolan’s Dunkirk, described the director as “very particular.” Rylance recalled how Nolan didn’t like having chairs or even bottles of water on set. “They’re distractions,” said Dunkirk costar Barry Keoghan. “The noise of [the bottles], they’re like toys almost, playing around with toys.” Keoghan also added that the no-chair rule keeps everyone on their toes (literally).
