SEAN Combs has been ᵴtriƥped of his honorary degree after the university that issued it insisted he is “no longer worthy” of the accolade.
Howard University voted unanimously to “accept the return” of the honorary degree they gave him in 2014.
This decision comes after the video of Combs assaulting singer Cassie in a hotel came to light last month.
“Mr. Combs’ behavior as captured in a recently released video is so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University’s core values and beliefs that he is deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution’s highest honor,” the board said in a statement.
“The University is unwavering in its opposition to all acts of interpersonal violence,” they continued.
The Historically Black University in Washington DC also announced it is terminating a 2016 gift agreement with Mr. Combs, and disbanding the scholarship program they created in his name.
The board also said the HBCU is returning Combs’ $1 million contribution to the school, and eliminating a 2023 pledge agreement made between Howard and the Sean Combs Foundation, although the school says Combs never contributed any of the money promised from the pledge.
In the video, Cassie, whose full name is Casandra Ventura, is seen frantically trying to leave the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles by the elevator before Combs abruptly appears behind her in nothing but a towel.
He then throws her to the ground from behind by her head, and kicks her motionless body before dragging her against her will by her hair back to their room.
It is alleged that Combs paid the hotel $50,000 for the footage of the attack in an attempt to make sure it never surfaces, according to Cassie’s lawsuit against Combs, which came to a settlement last November.
At first, Combs was adamant of his innocence of all allegations, including those made by Cassie in her lawsuit.
“Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday,” he said on Instagram in December.
“Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family, and for the truth.”
But a few days after the disturbing video of him assaulting Cassie came to light, Combs quickly changed his tune.
Combs apologized for his actions in another post on Instagram, saying it is “difficult” to reflect on the “darkest times” of his life.
“I was f***ked up,” Combs said of himself at the time.
“I mean I hit rock bottom but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable.”
“I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted than when I did it and I’m disgusted now,” he continued, saying he has since sought professional help.
Roger Bonds, Combs’ former personal security guard, told Piers Morgan he witnessed his former employer of over 10 years beat multiple women on numerous occasions, including the mother of his own 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren Kim Porter, on at least “four or five occasions”.
Bonds described the now-disgraced rapper as a “king manipulator” who made a “self-centered apology” on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
Combs has been associated with multiple lawsuits and allegations of 𝓈ℯ𝓍ual assault, abuse, 𝓈ℯ𝓍 trafficking, the illegal distribution of drugs and firearms, and more, which all eventually led to his Los Angeles home being raided by Homeland Security in March.
Since the federal raid on his home and the video of his assault on Cassie surfaced, organizations once associated with Combs have now distanced themselves.
This includes the entire City of New York, where Mayor Eric Adams is looking into the process of taking back the key to the city he awarded Combs last September
