Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are said to be facing each other to seek cooperation with famous startup Character.AI.
According to the Financial Times , Elon Musk ‘s xAI company is planning to cooperate with Character.AI, but Mark Zuckerberg ‘s Meta also has a similar move. The source said the two have held some exploratory talks, but have not reached any agreement.
Character.AI is the company behind the AI model of the same name, which allows users to create chatbots that simulate anyone they want, whether alive or dead. The company was founded in September 2022 by Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas, two developers who participated in Google’s LaMDA AI project. Character.AI is backed by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z fund) and was valued at one billion USD last year.
When launched, Character.AI ran on the web, then appeared on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in May 2023, reaching 1.7 million downloads after the first week on each platform. At the same time, the platform launched a paid service with advanced features in addition to the free version.
Business Insider evaluates that Meta and xAI want to cooperate with Character.AI, showing that AI is a new stage between Musk and Zuckerberg. The two have been openly confronting each other since 2016 and always attack each other whenever possible. The two billionaires once arranged to fight, but the match never took place. In mid-May, Musk continued to ” challenge ” but CEO Meta did not respond.
On May 26, xAI said it had raised $6 billion in funding, valued at $ 24 billion. Musk is also planning to build the world’s largest supercomputer to train the Grok chatbot. Meanwhile, Zuckerberg announced last year that he would spend “heavily” on AI. He also emphasized the company’s mission to build artificial general intelligence (AGI) – a new level of AI that can outperform humans.
