PSG enters the final match of the season against Lyon in the French Cup final. This was also Mbappe’s last match in a PSG shirt and the farewell was more complete than ever.
Mbappe had the perfect farewell with PSG with a title
Top French star Kylian Mbappe made his last appearance in a PSG shirt against Lyon in the final of the Coupe de France (French National Cup). Both sides entered the game at high speed with “tit for tat” attacks.
In the 22nd minute, the turning point came thanks to goalkeeper Perrin’s mistake when he misjudged where Nuno Mendes’s cross would fall. Ousmane Dembele easily headed into the empty net to open the score for PSG. Exactly 12 minutes later, Dembele received the ball from Barcola before making a convenient pass for Fabian Ruiz to score to increase the score to 2-0.
Before the first half ended, Mbappe had a chance to score in a counterattack but he finished incorrectly. In the second half, Lyon pushed up the offensive line. They immediately got results in the 55th minute, O’Brien scored a header from Cherki’s corner.
Not long after, the score would have been 2-2 if Donnarumma hadn’t had excellent reflexes to push the ball over the bar from Tagliafico’s header. The remaining minutes of the second half saw Lyon’s relentless attack efforts but they were still powerless to find an equalizer.
Winning narrowly 2-1 in the final, PSG won a double domestic title when crowned in the French National Cup. At the same time, this is also the perfect farewell for superstar Mbappe as he will leave when the summer transfer market opens.
