Chelsea have now told £50m player he has to sign a new contract

Chelsea will not let Conor Gallagher run down his contract.

That is according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

Conor Gallagher‘s current deal expires in 2025 and Bailey, speaking on Talking Transfers, claims Chelsea have told their midfielder he has to sign a new contract.

Despite the club having been open to selling him in the summer, Gallagher has been a key player for Mauricio Pochettino this season, starting 11 Premier League games under the Argentine.

In the previous transfer window, talkSPORT claimed that the Blues would have been willing to sell the 23-year-old for £50m.

Chelsea want Conor Gallagher to sign a contract extension

Bailey says Chelsea are in no mood to lose Gallagher on a free transfer.

Discussing the Englishman’s future on Talking Transfers, he said: “The ball is almost really in Gallagher’s court because Chelsea are saying to him, ‘Look, you need to sign this new contract.’

“It’s getting towards a similar situation with Mason Mount. He’s out of contract in 2025, so he’s got basically 18 months left, Gallagher, and Chelsea are not going to let players run down their contracts.”

Chelsea do not want Mason Mount repeat with Conor Gallagher

Mount entered the final year of his Chelsea contract during the summer, forcing his former club to sell him to Manchester United.

It is clear that they do not want similar happening again and want more control over their players’ futures. However, there could easily be a repeat with Gallagher if he does not put pen to paper on a new deal soon.

We are expecting him to extend his stay at Chelsea, though, as things are going well for him at the club at the minute.

The England international has started every Premier League game this season and recently broke a personal record after creating five chances in the 4-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur.

But Chelsea look to be laying down the law here. If Gallagher does not sign a new contract, then he probably is going to be sold soon.

There are so many interesting storylines at Stamford Bridge right now and Gallagher’s contract situation is certainly one of them. It is something that you have to keep an eye on.
