Jets’ Thomas Morstead recalls wife fumbling Aaron Rodgers’ name: ‘Absolutely mortified’

Knowing who Aaron Rodgers is, is one thing, but getting his name right is quite another.

Just ask the wife of Jets punter Thomas Morstead, who was trolled Tuesday by the star quarterback after she mistakenly called him “Andrew” at training camp over the summer.

“After practice in training camp, he came over and he must have spent seven or eight minutes with my entire family,” Morstead recalled of Rodgers, 39, on Thursday’s installment of The Post’s “Gang’s All Here” podcast.

“You know, we’re wrapping up … my wife, who absolutely knows who Aaron Rodgers is, just says, ‘Nice to meet you, Andrew.’”

Though Rodgers responded, “Yeah, sure, call me whatever you want,” before walking off, Morstead’s wife, Lauren, was still processing the faux pas.

“Lauren tells me about it, she’s absolutely mortified. Aaron’s just waiting for me, and I see this big old grin on his face,” the 37-year-old punter said.

Rodgers thought the ordeal was “so funny,” according to Morstead, who then shared the quarterback’s new moniker for his wife.

“He said, “Tell Daphne the next time I see her, we’re going to laugh about this,’” Morstead recounted.

“So, obviously her name is Lauren, so he asks how Lauren’s doing, he just says, ‘Hey, how’s my girl Daphne doing?’ and it’s become an inside joke.”

Morstead’s comments echo those of Rodgers, who elaborated on Lauren’s slip during his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“I’m thankful for Thomas, he’s become a good friend. His wife doesn’t really know my name. She called me the wrong name when she met me, she called me ‘Andrew.’ I’m not sure who she thought I was, but that’s a little joke between Thomas and I and Daphne. I don’t even know, I think her name is Diane or Daphne or something. Probably neither of those,” Rodgers quipped on Tuesday’s show.

Morstead was named the AFC special teams player of the week following the Jets’ 13-10 win over the Giants in Week 8.

He punted 11 times, three of which came down in the 5-yard line, according to Pro Football Talk.

This is Morstead’s second stint with the Jets, having first signed with the team in September 2021. He has also played for the Falcons, Saints and Dolphins.
