A young African American girl named Cali Johnson has made history as the first-ever black Valedictorian of Dekaney High School in the United States.
Cali Johnson graduated as the first ever black to be awarded the best graduating student since the inception of Dekaney High School, Houston in United States. While giving her valedictorian speech, Cali reflected on her journey as a black student of the school. She mentioned how happy she is, to have accomplished the success despite the discrimination the black community faces in the state.
Cali dedicated her award to the black students of Dekaney High school saying they should cherish the special moment. She described the feat as a reward of all of their hard work and dedication in the school
“We should take in this moment, this ceremony, this day, and cherish it,” Johnson said. Today is our day,” Cali said. “Today is a commemoration of all we’ve strived for and the hard work we’ve put in to get here. We’ve yearned for this moment, we’ve earned this moment, and we’ve definitely earned this diploma,” she added.Look towards your future with confidence of achieving exceptional success.
