He stepped into a convenience store to fetch a sandwich, but, 44-year-old Travis Hall, a resident of Port St. Lucie, Florida, unexpectedly struck it rich when he won a massive $5 million prize from a scratch-off game. He decided to receive his fortune as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $3,994,698.00.
Sharing his life-changing experience, Hall explained that he stopped at a Publix store to buy a sandwich and impulsively decided to try a $20 scratch-off ticket. To his amazement, that decision led to a life-changing $5 million prize.
He added that he had to wait for days to scratch the ticket, and when he finally did, the shock was so overwhelming that he handed the ticket to his wife, with his hands trembling with disbelief at the staggering win.
As Travis basks in his stroke of luck, the retailer who sold the ticket to him will walk with a generous $10,000 bonus commission for selling the winning scratch-off ticket. This comes on the heels of a Maryland lottery enthusiast who capitalized on a cashier’s error to also make a fortune, according to the Mirror.
The man had developed a rapport with staff at the petrol station where he frequents for his lottery purchases. However, on one fateful Monday, he sighted an error after he was served by a new cashier. He was enraged because the cashier could only offer a sincere apology because the ticket couldn’t be canceled or replaced. This error ultimately led to an unexpected turn of fortune for the player.
Since the new employee couldn’t rectify the error, the man was given a multi-match ticket which he kept on himself for days. However, one morning, while on his way to work, he decided to check his ticket using the Lottery mobile app and was stunned to find out that it was worth an impressive $580,000.
But, when he confirmed the validity, as a result of the disbelief, he had to double-scan it with a retailer. He said he took a picture of the message to prove it was true. He now intends to use the money to offset his debts and set up a care fund for the elderly.
