‘Quietly Brilliant’: Player Chelsea Sold For £7m Earns High Praise… Again

Among the players Chelsea offloaded in the summer transfer window was Ethan Ampadu, who joined Leeds United.

Ethan Ampadu moved to Chelsea back in 2017.

It was a high-profile transfer at the time.

Ampadu was only 16 when Chelsea secured the services from Exeter City.

Manchester United and Arsenal were also interested in Ampadu at the time, according to The Guardian.

After loan spells at RB Leipzig, Sheffield United, Veneziz and Spezia in recent years, Ampadu, who can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder, left Chelsea for good in the summer transfer window.

The Wales international joined Leeds in the Championship.

According to The London Evening Standard, Leeds, who got relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, paid £7 million in transfer fees to Chelsea for Ampadu.

And he is flourishing at the West Yorkshire club now.

Ampadu has established himself as a regular in the Leeds first team under head coach Daniel Farke.

The Welshman started for Leeds in the Championship match against Watford at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

Leeds won 3-0.

Ampadu started the match in defensive midfield in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

And, his performance was rated highly in the Leeds media.

Leeds Live gave Ampadu 7 out of 10 and noted: “Keeps the team ticking over in his sleep, you would imagine.

“Dictates play, tells others where to position themselves, breaks up attacks, starts attacks for Leeds. Quietly brilliant.”

Ampadu has played eight times in the Championship for Leeds so far this season.

The 23-year-old was also impressive for Wales during the recent international break.

For his performance against Latvia, WalesOnline described Ampadu as the “star man and gave him 9 out of 10.

Against South Korea, WalesOnline marked Ampadu 7 out of 10 and described his performance as “outstanding”.
