FIFA (or “EA FC” as it’s now known) is out, and Chelsea have just 7 players rated at 80 or above.
That indicates our decline – or at least our perceived decline. You’d think after spending a billion we’d have players rated 80 in every position. Plenty of people are saying this reflects badly on EA and whoever they have in charge of choosing ratings. We say it reflects just as badly on the guys spending £80m on Mykhailo Mudryk.
There are certainly some strange stats in there however – Enzo’s passing at just 81?!
You can see the whole team’s ratings in the image embedded here:
Chelsea’s transfer spending has gone beyond the €1 billion mark in just three windows since the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital takeover in May 2022.
The Blues’ latest signing — a €46 million deal for Manchester City forward Cole Palmer — saw the England under-21 midfielder become the 25th player to join the club for a transfer fee since the summer of 2022, when U.S. billionaire Boehly became co-controlling owner.
You can wonder how and why the club can spend this much, but you can’t question that it has happened.
