Who has the advantage in a battle between the Princess of Themyscira and the God of Thunder?
- Gal Gadot believes that Wonder Woman and Thor would unite against evil rather than fighting each other.
- In the comic book storyline “Afterworlds,” Wonder Woman defeats Thor and can wield Mjolnir.
- A DC and Marvel crossover event on the big screen seems unlikely for now, as both franchises are focused on their own upcoming projects.
Could Wonder Woman defeat the Mighty Thor? Well, Gal Gadot has gone on record with her answer. While promoting her latest film for Netflix, Heart of Stone, Gadot participated in a new installment of GQ’s Actually Me. As the actress prepared to answer online questions, the first definitely showed that it has ties to the DC and Marvel Comics’ respective mythologies: “Who wins a fight, Gal Gadot or Chris Hemsworth?”
Gadot said during the online interview, courtesy of GQ:
“Who wins a fight, Gal Gadot or Chris Hemsworth? What’s with this question? Everyone are asking me who would win a fight, me or Chris? I will be a smartass. And I’ll say, ‘Chris and I are not going to fight each other. We’re going to fight together against evil… muhahaha.”
Gadot is almost certainly correct in her assumption that Wonder Woman and Thor would ultimately work together since they’re both heroic figures. Sure, there might be that awkward feeling out process like the Dark Knight (Ben Affleck) and the Last Son of Krypton (Henry Cavill) experienced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, even they ultimately came together to thwart Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and Doomsday. But if Diana Prince squared off against Thor Odinson, would it be a fair fight?
Wonder Woman Defeats Thor!
Gal Gadot gave her honest assessment when it came to choosing who would win a fight between her character Wonder Woman and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. Certainly, the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have both taken liberties with their respective comic book characters and source material. Nevertheless, there is a legitimate answer to this question.
In Wonder Woman No. 773, during the Afterworlds storyline, the Amazonian bests Thor. What’s even worse for the God of Thunder is that Diana can lift and wield that comic book’s version of Mjolnir. But the only way fans of the cinematic superheroes are ever going to find out the answer for sure is if Gadot and Hemsworth square off against one another on the big screen.
For now, though, even the thought of a DC and Marvel crossover event seems lightyears away. The MCU has struggled in both Phase 4 and 5 compared to the unparalleled success the studio enjoyed building up and paying off Phases 1-3 with Avengers: Endgame. Meanwhile, James Gunn and Peter Safran are trying to right a sinking ship with their upcoming Detective Comics Universe (DCU).
While Gadot insists that Wonder Woman 3 is going to happen, there are multiple reports that say otherwise. As for a fifth solo project for Hemsworth’s Odinson, Thor: Love and Thunder certainly seemed to tease another adventure on his own for the Avenger. Ultimately, though, with the DCU and MCU already mapping out their universes with dozens of projects down the line, it could be years before Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Hemsworth’s Thor cross paths on the Silver Screen — if ever.
