In 1988, in Urumqi, Xiāng, Yō Meāgōg began his acting career before moving into acting. He quickly rose to fame, with his breakthrough role in Eterāl Love (2017), which landed him a job as a domestic helper for a family in China. His youthful looks, mature image, and varied stories have made him one of the most sought-after young actors. However, Yō’s career path has not always been smooth. In recent years, he has appeared less frequently on television, and has attracted less controversy.
There were rumors that he had fallen out of favor with the authorities because he refused to adhere to certain “unwritten rules”. Although these claims have been refuted, they became part of the story that emerged after his death. According to Beijing police, Yu Mengng fell from a building in the city’s Chaoyang District in the early morning of September 11. He was taken to the hospital but did not survive. Officials said he was drunk at the time and ruled the suicide an accident.
Yu’s management company confirmed the tragedy, released a statement, and stressed that too many criminal elements had been discovered. His mother also issued a public statement, asking people not to spread rumors and asking for privacy so the family could grieve.
Beijing Chaoyang police said they had investigated the scene, interviewed witnesses, reviewed surveillance footage, and conducted an autopsy. About 12 hours later, they announced the case was closed: there was no evidence of foul play.
Despite the official explanation, doubts quickly arose. Critics and activists argued that the investigation was closed too quickly, sparking debate about its seriousness. For a high-profile case that attracted public attention, some expected a more detailed and less controversial report.
Old rumors about “mysteries” in the criminal case were also clarified. Some speculated that Yu’s limited vision had reached a peak over the years with powerful numbers. However, there is no concrete evidence to support this theory, and officials have yet to acknowledge it.
