It is not easy to work at an event with so many celebrities per square meter like the Met Gala, the so-called “Oscars” of Fashion – the charitable event that kicks off the annual fashion exhibition at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City – even less so in the shadow of someone as famous as Kylie Jenner, who is a regular attendee every year.
Just ask Eugenio Casnighi, an Italian model who was hired to work with the youngest Kardashian-Jenner on the red carpet, doing various tasks such as holding her purse while photos were taken or making sure everything was okay. He thought he had done a good job, but the gala organizers have fired him. The reason, overshadowing Kylie.
The Italian model himself revealed on his personal TikTok account last Saturday, confessing to his followers that he had just been fired from the gala, which takes place on the night of Monday, May 6th. “I was just fired from the Met Gala. Do you remember me?” he asks, sharing a video of himself with Kylie at the previous event.
Casnighi’s image went viral in 2023 after hundreds of social media users highlighted his attractiveness as he walked past the influencer, who was stealing all the attention dressed in a spectacular red dress
Casnighi, who had been working during the last two charity events, does not understand the reason for this dismissal. He also wanted to explain that if he is now talking about this whole situation, it is because of the confidentiality contract to which he was legally bound, which has now expired due to his dismissal.
“Basically, they told me, ‘You acted like the protagonist, so we can’t have you working here. We’re sorry.’ Last year they told me I was going to be with Jenner, and that I had to help her with anything she needed,” the model recounts.
Italian culture unveils that those who pose on the red carpet alongside celebrities are usually agency models, specifically hired for their good looks. These employees naturally seek their big break among designers and industry professionals, so they give it their all.
“They want to be seen. They literally told me that they had chosen me because they preferred me to be with that famous person, but when people took photos of us… Obviously, I ended up in the pictures, and they blamed me.”
A set of photographs that went viral on social media, with the model gaining widespread fame. His case reached such a point that, according to the Italian model, he wouldn’t have been the only one to suffer the consequences.
However, the model does not blame Kylie Jenner, whom he cannot praise enough, ensuring that the young influencer treated him very kindly and made sure that the Italian did not get bored of following her all night, engaging in conversation with him from time to time to make the event more enjoyable.
