Patrick Mahomes strong work ethic can be tied back to his mom
Patrick Mahomes‘ mother, Randi Mahomes, took to social media to show the world that she raised her sons right and still models the value of hard work to this day. However, it seems that only one of her sons got the message.
How Randi Mahomes turned her life around with hard work
The inspiring video goes a long way in explaining to Chiefs fans where the Kansas City quarterback gets his trademark work ethic. His mom showed dedication to her career as an event planner, even after Patrick signed a $500 million contract that ensured she did not have to work another day in her life.
“I was getting divorced and I just needed some foundation,” Randi narrated. She got the job at Hollytree Country Club in Tyler, Texas 18 years ago, just after she divorced MLB star Pat Mahomes Sr. and little Patrick was just 10 years old.
“It’s about independence, & setting an example of hard work & discipline for my kids,” she wrote with the video on Twitter/X.
Jackson Mahomes took a different route to fame
While Patrick seemed to understand her sacrifices as a single mother and put the same energy into his craft on the football field, his troubled brother Jackson Mahomes did not embrace the same lesson.
The 23-year-old took to a life as an influencer on social media, often flexing the fruits of his brother’s labor as his own. He created an online persona of sideline views, private jets and shopping trips that were just him riding his brother’s coattails, instead of choosing to keep working for a life of his own, like his mother.
His troubles were highlighted by an alarming 𝓈ℯ𝓍ual battery case involving allegedly forcibly kissing a restaurant owner in 2023, but his felony charges were later dropped.
He made a slow return to the public eye during the Chiefs Super Bowl-winning season in 2023, trying on several occasions to capitalize on the extra attention paid to Patrick’s team when Taylor Swift and Jason Kelce started attending Kansas City games.
Patrick and Jackson’s divergent paths prove that no parent can guarantee that a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 will follow in their footsteps. Nonetheless, Randi Mahomes sent a powerful message about hard work with her social media video that is worth celebrating, whether her kids follow in her footsteps or not.
